Six Reasons Why Vending Machine Businesses Are Great
Let's be clear up front: Vending machine businesses are not as unbelievably fanastic as most
of the business opportunity promoters who have you believe. But they do have a lot of fundamental things that you can leverage
to your benefit. Here's a list of the twelve most significant ones. This is not a complete list - there are lots of great things
about having a vending machine business. Do keep in mind though, there are
quite a few bad things about having a vending machine business. Nothing's perfect.
1) Vending Machine Businesses are an All Cash Business
This means you'll never have to deal with bad checks, late payments or
any collections hassles. Many companies have entire departments they have to devote to this sort of time-waster.
2) You can start your vending machine business full or part time
The smaller you start, actually, the better, because that way you'll
know exactly what to expect before you start spending a lot of money. Despite
what some vending machine distributors push, you can buy just one machine
and just get comfortable with doing a micro-business to start. You
don't need to go into debt or make this into a big production to get started.
3) There's not a lot of competition
Some of you just said "Whoa - scam alert!" Here's the deal - there IS a lot
of competition for high traffic locations, and the competition is professional
and probably better funded than you are. But go one level down, to medium
to low traffic areas, and it gets MUCH easier. And these spots are
extremely profitable, too. For example, professional locating companies will
be looking for business sites that have more than 100 employees. Anything
much below that and they don't care. So if you go look for sites that have
20 to 100 employees, you'll still be making plenty of money, the site
owners will be thrilled to have you, and there won't be anywhere near the
kind of competition you'll find in the big ticket locations.
4) Immediate Income
Vending is really nice this way. Compare it to consulting or freelance work. You won't
have to do a month's worth of work before you can even send an invoice,
and you won't have to wait a month before the invoice is paid. You find a location, put
the machine in, and check it a week or so later. Cha-ching: there's over a
hundred dollars in there. Next week, there's another hundred dollars. And the
week after, and the week after, and the week after. By the time your
friend the freelancer gets paid (if they get paid...) you've been buying
groceries with your vending income for nearly two months.
5) No Selling
Are you repelled by the idea of endless pitches to prospective customers who don't care? Don't
like cold-calling? Vending might be a good choice for you. Those of us
who don't like the rejection and false feelings hard selling create might be much happier
long term going with this very laid back, no pressure business. The
vending machine is your salesman - which is the main reason you should get new,
top-quality machines, but more on that later.
6) Repeat Business
I touched on this in the immediate income section. Vending is a reliable business that won't fluctuate a whole lot whether its Christmas or the
4th of July, whether the economy is great or awful. Its not "set it and forget it" as some of the biz op people would have you believe,
but you're not going to have to redo your strategy every month, or even every year, and probably not even every five or ten years.
Your little cash machine robots, your vending machines, will keep doing their thing as predictably as people crave snacks.
